homeremedy

Our hearts are saddened when our baby manages to get cold and coughs. We are even concerned about a sneeze. It can be stressful especially to new moms. Don't worry, mama [?] Cold and cough are highly prevalent among babies particularly around the repeat of weather, rainy or winter.

In the majority of cases, it is not severe and will be improved in 5 to 7 days with the right treatment. In this paper, I will present simple home remedies that most Indian mothers adhere to. They are harmless and mild, when performed in a proper manner.

However, do not forget that in case your baby is under 3 months of age or has high fever, breathing is difficult, or is constantly vomiting, you should go to your doctor at once.

Why Do Infants Cough and  So easily?
Infants possess extremely narrow nose ducts and a low immunity. Their immunity is underdeveloped. Accordingly, they are readily infected with viruses by:
  • Weather changes
  • Dust or pollution
  • Family members who have cold
  • It may be mild and sometimes the time of teeting (sometimes mild symptoms)

Cold usually includes:

  • Runny nose
  • Blocked nose
  • Mild cough
  • Sneezing
  • Slight fever
Now we should speak about what we are able to do at home.

Breastfeeding - Best Natural Medicine.
When your child is still below 1 year and breastfeeding, then keep feeding the baby on a regular basis.

Antibodies that are used in the fight against infection are found in breast milk. Although a baby may consume a limited amount of it, it is all right. Feed slowly and more often.

In children who are more than 6 months, maintain normal feeding as well as solids.

Warm Fluids (Newborns more than 6 months old)
In case baby is over 6 months you can administer:
  • Warm water (small sips)
  • Warm dal water
  • Clear vegetable soup
  • Rice kanji (slightly warm)

  4. Allow baby to breathe the low density steam at a safe distance.

If the baby is above 1 year:

Serve a little warm milk with pinch turmeric at night. Turmeric is of natural anti-inflammatory effect.

Again, avoid honey below 1 year.

When the baby is over 1 year, you may move the mattress slightly on one side (without a pillow placed under the head of little babies).

This assists in minimizing night time coughing and enhances breathing.

Give Proper Rest.Infants will heal quicker when they sleep adequately.

Do not expose the baby to the cold wind. Maintain the room with temperature but not hot. Do not expose baby to direct fan /AC air.

  • Hold baby back to sick people.
  • Clean toys regularly
  • Avoid smoke exposure
  • Dress baby depending on weather.
  • Should one of their family members have a cold, request them to put on a mask around the baby.
A Small Comfort for Moms
Mama, do not forget, cold and cough are a part of growing up. This does not imply that you are doing something bad. Nobody has a baby who never gets sick.

Stay calm. Give love, care, and patience. A majority of colds are viral and self limiting.
